Tracacat

Cat Tracks

Challenge

New Pet Wearable Product, Concept to Completion

Tracacat was a product born of necessity: thousands of pets are lost each year and over half go unfound. While 93% of dogs are recovered, sadly, just 74% of cats are found. Using GPS, Tracacat was designed to help cat parents track their cats, alerting them early on if the cat was near or at a defined safe zone, whether that was in-home or defined on a map.

Success

From Cat Collar to App Interface

Almost hourly sketches, it seems, kept the project humming while we created a lo-fi prototype and a pitch deck for investors and a compelling marketing video. As the features progressed, we designed the interface of the cat wearable as well as the watch and phone. The technology included USB charging pad and even a tiny strip of solar panel material at the top side of the collar. The cat’s collar would display a message and light when lost and the user’s phone or smart watch would provide alerts and camera-based imagery. The colorful interface and marketing materials helped keep the very seriousness of the technology on the light side, expressing the true spirit of the technology: pet owners keeping their curious cats as safe as can be.
